GNW Instrumentation provides calibration, repair and refurbishment services for industrial, laboratory and professional measuring equipment. Based in Southport, Merseyside, we support businesses throughout the UK with workshop services and planned visits to customer premises.
Our experience covers electronic and mechanical instrumentation used for measurement, testing, inspection and process control. Whether an instrument needs a routine calibration, investigation of a fault or more extensive refurbishment, our team will review the requirement and explain the available options.
Calibration services
Regular calibration provides a documented check of an instrument’s performance. It can help identify measurement drift, support equipment management procedures and give users confidence in the results on which production, inspection and maintenance decisions are based.
GNW provides calibration services across a broad range of measurement disciplines. These include pressure and vacuum gauges, scales and balances, test weights, load cells, temperature and humidity instruments, electrical test equipment, dimensional tools, torque instruments, force gauges, crimp tools, flow meters and selected analytical equipment.
Calibration work can be arranged for individual instruments, batches of equipment or recurring requirements. A calibration certificate is supplied for completed work, and UKAS calibration can be arranged where it is specifically required and available for the equipment concerned.
Workshop and on-site calibration
Portable equipment can be sent to our Southport calibration workshop. This is generally the most practical route for individual instruments, smaller batches and work that requires controlled workshop facilities.
We also provide on-site calibration at customer premises across the UK. This can reduce disruption where instruments are fixed in place, difficult to transport, required for daily production or due for calibration in larger numbers. The most appropriate option will depend on the equipment, the work required and the site location.
Instrument repair services
Faulty instrumentation does not always need to be replaced. GNW provides inspection, repair and refurbishment services for a wide range of industrial and professional measuring equipment, including many older and obsolete units.
Our technicians can investigate visible damage, unstable or incorrect readings, mechanical problems, connection faults, leakage, display failures and other reported issues. Each instrument is assessed individually because repair options depend on its design, condition and the availability of suitable components.
There is no charge for the initial inspection. If a repair is practical, we will describe the proposed work and provide a quotation before proceeding. Where an instrument cannot be repaired economically or suitable parts are unavailable, we will explain the position so that you can consider the available alternatives.

Instrument refurbishment and modification
Replacing established instrumentation can be difficult when the original model is obsolete or a modern alternative does not match the existing dimensions, range or connections. Subject to the equipment’s condition, refurbishment may provide a practical way to extend its service life.
GNW can also modify selected instruments for a different application. Typical work includes changing connections and fittings, extending capillaries on remote-reading instruments, re-ranging pressure and temperature instruments, and recalibrating tank gauges for use with different products. Any modification is reviewed against the instrument design and intended duty before work is agreed.
Repair and calibration through one supplier
A repaired measuring instrument may need to be calibrated before it returns to service. As GNW provides both repair and calibration, many instruments can be inspected, repaired, tested and calibrated through the same team. This keeps communication straightforward and ensures the certification requirement is considered as part of the work.
Please tell us at the quotation stage if a calibration certificate or UKAS calibration is required after repair. UKAS calibration is a separate service and is not automatically included.

For calibration enquiries, include the required calibration points and certification where known. For repairs, provide a clear description of the fault and photographs if they will help us understand the equipment’s condition.
