Junction Boxes

Junction boxes are an essential part of industrial weighing systems, allowing multiple load cells to be connected safely and accurately to a single weight indicator or transmitter. At GNW Instrumentation, we supply industrial load cell junction boxes designed for reliable signal summing, corner adjustment and electrical protection across tank weighing, silo weighing, batching systems and industrial process applications.

Understanding Load Cell Junction Boxes

Load cell junction boxes are electrical enclosures used to connect multiple load cells within industrial weighing systems. Their main function is to combine load cell signals into a single output suitable for a weight indicator, transmitter or industrial control system.

In many industrial applications, several load cells are used to support a single structure such as a tank, hopper or weighing platform. Junction boxes simplify wiring by bringing all load cell connections into one central enclosure.

Many junction boxes include equalisation or corner adjustment capability. This allows engineers to fine-tune each load cell signal during commissioning to compensate for uneven load distribution across the weighing structure.

Industrial junction boxes are available in different enclosure materials including polycarbonate, aluminium and stainless steel. Stainless steel versions are commonly used within hygienic and washdown environments where corrosion resistance is important.

Environmental protection ratings such as IP65, IP66, IP67 and IP69K indicate the enclosure’s resistance to dust and water ingress. Higher-rated junction boxes are suitable for demanding industrial environments and external installations.

Some junction boxes also include surge protection and intrinsically safe circuitry for hazardous-area and ATEX applications where electrical protection is critical.

Signal summing for load cells

Junction boxes combine multiple load cell signals into one stable output for weighing instrumentation.

Corner adjustment and equalisation

Equalised junction boxes allow signal balancing for improved weighing accuracy across multi-load-cell systems.

Industrial environmental protection

IP-rated and stainless steel junction boxes are designed for demanding industrial and washdown environments.

Junction box applications

Industrial load cell junction boxes are used across a wide range of weighing and process control systems requiring multiple load cell connections.

Tank and silo weighing

Junction boxes are widely used within tank, vessel and silo weighing systems using multiple support load cells.

Platform scales and weighbridges

Equalisation boxes improve load distribution accuracy within large weighing platforms and weighbridge systems.

Industrial batching systems

Junction boxes support stable signal management within batching, filling and process weighing applications.

How to choose load cell junction boxes

Selecting the correct junction box depends on the weighing system layout, environmental conditions and required functionality.

Consider the number of load cells

Different models support varying numbers of load cell inputs, commonly 4, 6 or 10 channels.

Review environmental protection requirements

Washdown and external environments may require stainless steel or high-IP-rated enclosures for long-term reliability.

Determine if equalisation is required

Multi-support weighing systems often benefit from equalised junction boxes for corner adjustment and signal balancing.

Check hazardous-area compatibility

ATEX-certified junction boxes are required for installations operating within explosive atmospheres.
