Pressure calibration equipment explained

A pressure comparison setup normally consists of a pressure source, a reference instrument and the fittings needed to connect the device under test. Pneumatic pumps use air and avoid introducing liquid into the system, while hydraulic pumps are used where higher pressures or liquid media are required.

The reference gauge should cover the required test points and provide sufficient accuracy for the procedure. Its calibration status, resolution and measurement uncertainty matter just as much as the pump range.

Connection threads, hose ratings, seals and wetted materials must all suit the pressure and medium. Never exceed the rating of the lowest-rated component in the test arrangement.

Traceable work also requires a calibrated reference, a controlled method, competent personnel and recorded results. The equipment enables the comparison; it does not create traceability by itself.
